Welcome to Simply Turquoise! This blog was started with a coffee high and a really good night’s sleep. Also, it was an assignment from my therapist.
My husband and I have lived all over the United States and one of my favorite places is Lynchburg, Virginia. It is full of character, buildings tangled up in vines, industrial spaces and southern charm. We would walk along the James River and think about which abandoned building we would like to live in. What if we could trade our life and hide out by the river? Then a big old train would rumble past and I would say, “No thanks, I prefer my house on the hill.”

I do not have that house in Virginia anymore, but from it I learned to love history, and to regard the style and scale of the space I am decorating. Even now, I feel claustrophobic in a house with eight foot ceilings. I love the charm and craftsmanship of that house, built in 1880. I miss the staircase.
Come in to Simply Turquoise and stay awhile. If you were in my living room, I would offer you coffee and tell you that I learned to decorate through trial and error, by making my husband and eldest child rearrange the furniture 500 ways to Sunday. By trying that paint color I was not too sure about and by taking risks.
You do not have to spend a lot of money to add charm to your space. You only need to think outside the box a little, use some old-fashioned elbow grease and be inspired. That is what we hope to do for you.

@FoundThisPaintedThat- I’m thrilled to have discovered your blog and I can’t wait to spend some time looking at it more carefully! I’ve already replaced one of those awful light fixtures with a wire basket, which is pure genius.

Wait, did you replace the light fixture because you saw my post? If yes, I’d like to show people that by linking to your post! Let me know! 🙂 and thanks for following!

I am not that speedy! I had a light fixture in my bathroom with no cover, and modified a wire “thingy” I had to replace it. It was inspired by your post! As soon as I get around to writing about it, I will link it to yours if that is okay. Great idea.
